Wesley's verbal skills are taking off....here are some of his latest sayings:
*At mealtime he has started folding his hands to say the blessing, and at the end he will either applaud (He must take after his Great Aunts Beverly and Kitty! :) or he will say "may-men" for amen...
*He is learning body parts and knows them pretty well....his latest is "elbow" which he can say fairly well...what cracks me up is that he also uses that word to indicate his FAVORITE Sesame Street Character....any guesses....ELMO....so he will knock his elbow while running to my room to sit in his spot to watch ELMO....or while wearing his ELMO shoes/shirt/hat...he LOVES the guy...and honestly, I'm not upset at all, because at least I have found ONE show he will watch (as long as he is strapped down) sO I can take a shower and get a few things done....ELMO has been my go-to guy!
*Speaking of body parts....he LOVES reciting the parts of the face while touching/poking them...at least once a day you will hear him run through "eye....ear....mowf....nose....hair...." on us or on Bo...but what's funny about this is when he is in trouble and we are trying to have a "talk" with him....not sure if he is trying to change the subject or what, but it's hard to stay mad at a little tyke who is poking me in the ear and nose while I am fussing at him!
*Jack is getting into jokes and he's learned a few knock knock jokes....which Wesley loves to imitate. He will call out "Knock, knock" and wait until we say "Who's there?" then he will start the only one he knows "nana" (banana) so we will reply..."banana who"....and of course he doesnt understand the concept of a punch line, so he just starts it all over again with the same "banana" line....which is funny since that's the way the joke actually goes...except he doesnt understand when after the 10th time around we tell him to PLEASE say "orange"...it'll be nice when he learns that part of the joke too!
*He also has some funny names for objects, my favorite is that he calls our phones "hehwhoa!" and the WHOLE time we are talking on it he is wailing "hehwhoa! hehwhoa!" demanding that we hand him the phone! It's made for some interesting phone conversations lately....my apologies if you have tried calling me lately! He also calls the camera "cheese!"...and yells that out the whole time we are trying to capture a kodak moment....makes for some interesting pictures!
We have also had some interesting conversations with Jack lately:
*About a month or so ago we were driving around town and we were singing some songs, one of which is "I've been redeemed...by the blood of the Lamb" and Jack asked "what does redeemed mean?" so I had to think of a spiritually accurate, yet developmentally apropriate resonse to that....which is actually fun....I love moments like that where he is actually listening and thinking about what he is hearing!
*On a much lighter note, that same night Jack was reading signs and stores and he asked "Why dont we ever go to the "Smoke Station?" I told him that is a place that sells things we dont buy, like cigarettes....well of course he wanted to know what those were, so I told him they are things that some people use, but we dont buy them because they cost a lot of money and make people sick....he thought on that for a few minutes, and then declared, "I know why cigarettes make people sick....it's because they have boogers in them, right mommie?"...you have to understand, we've been having a LOT of converstaions lately with a certain 4 year old about NOT picking his nose...and eating it....GROSS....telling him they are germs and they will make him sick and the rest of us sick too....so to him sick=boogers.....(PRAISE THE LORD...that phase seems to have finally passed...)...a few weeks after this conversation he was riding around in Bertie's car, and informed her of his cigarette/booger discovery...there was a little bit of a question mark in her voice when she told us about that conversation later....we had some explaining to do....and THEN a few weeks after that, we were praying for a family member who is very sick, and when the prayer was over Jack asked....Why is she sick? Was is because she was using cigarettes too?"
*One morning as I was unloading the dishwasher after breakfast I was trying to explain to Jack why it was important for him to help me, even if it wasnt his favorite thing to do...I explained that I dont love doing dishes either, but I do it because I love my family" He asked me "what else do you love, mommie?" and I told him "reading, watching tv, eating, knitting, and getting hugs and kisses from my little boys" he jumped up and ran over to me and planted lots of hugs and kisses on me....it made doing dishes much much more enjoyable!
*Jack was helping me in the garden and he was enjoying playing with the worms, etc, and I pointed out a spider and told him that I am scared of spiders...but he apparently knows EVERYTHING about spiders...from Little Einsteins or Cat in the Har or something and he assured me "Dont Worry Mommie, Garden spiders are good, TRUST ME!"....and he has said that multiple times after that...well..that's just great....but they arent good for my nerves...so they will get squished if they are in my personal space!
*I have convinced Jack that Dandelions are my VERY FAVORITE flower in the whole world, so he enjoys going around our yard and picking as many dandelions as he can find....the best of both worlds...getting my yard weeded, and getting love from my favorite 4 year old at the same time! Priceless!
Oh how I love these boys!
